Sowing the Seeds of Christian Love in Southeast Kentucky

SOWER is a West Ohio Conference Volunteers In Mission (VIM) project which constructs new housing as part of the Henderson Settlement work camp program. Henderson Settlement, Frakes, Kentucky, is a component of the Red Bird Missionary Conference, providing a multitude of services to the southern Bell and Whitley counties in Kentucky and parts of two counties in Tennessee. The Work Camp Program is one of the services provided and has repaired existing housing and built new houses (26 to date) to raise the quality of life for the owner families in the local area.

In 2011 LUMC would like to partner with SOWER to construct the 11th home for a family. The approximate cost of materials to build one of the 28’ x 28’ houses from the ground up is approximately $36,000. The SOWER VIM Project needs to have at least the majority of the $36,000 in materials costs covered by pledges of support before late January 2011 to be able to commit to building this next house. Our LUMC Henderson House Build funding program will conclude in mid December, and our prayers are that God will lead us to the financial support required to fund a home. Over the next 6 months, the Missions Team will conduct a number of fund raising activities, and will keep the congregation well informed where we stand toward out $36,000 goal. Obviously, this is only something that will occur by the Will of God….as $36,000 is more than 3 times the total current annual budget funded for LUMC Missions and Outreach! The Missions Team is praying that you will feel led to help us reach, or surpass this worthy, but extremely challenging goal.

Those that have served on SOWER work teams comment that while they have helped a family by serving they gained much from the interaction and relationships with the family and fellow team members (please speak with Steve Hook, Eric Bradley, Bud Albrecht, or Jim Knight) for personal testimony and the names of others from LUMC who have participated in past projects.

Look for the Henderson House exhibit in the Gathering Area starting Sunday, June 27th, and watch as God leads the way toward a completely funded home for construction in 2011!
