Holy God of unconditional love and
unlimited presence,
I come to make myself fully available
to you, your will, and your way.
Speak to me gently and clearly, for I am yours

Six days later Jesus took Peter, James,
and John his brother, and brought them
to the top of a very high mountain.
He was transformed in front of them.
His face shone like the sun and his
clothes became white as light.
Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
talking with Jesus. Peter reacted
to all of this by saying to Jesus,
“Lord it’s good that we’re here. If you
want, I’ll make three shrines: one for you,
one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, look,
a bright cloud overshadowed them.
A voice from the cloud said,
“This is my Son whom I dearly love.
I am very pleased with him. Listen to him!”
Hearing this, the disciples fell on their faces,
filled with awe.

Church is an outdated convention.
It’s just a building.
I’d feel out of place.
No one would say hello to me.
Everyone would judge me.
Going to church is unnecessary.
I can worship anywhere…..
In one of my favorite books about church, Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, Robert Schnase writes, The Greek word for church, ekklesia, means ‘called out of the world,’ and refers to the calling of people from their ordinary life to gather together in sacred time and space. Worship breathes life into the
community of Christ’s followers, forms identity, and provides a place of common learning about faith and listening to God.
Being called out of the world is a holy request, made by Jesus Himself.
So many reasons can exist for not attending worship. During the season of Lent especially, I believe we are called to challenge those reasons.
Listen to God. Give Him your time and attention as never before. Let Him alone reveal His calling over your life.
I believe that now, more than ever,
our world needs church.
