United Methodist Women

Join the U.M.W. and bring a friend with you on the first Thursday morning of each month @ 9:45 – 11 for a time of fellowship, devotion and ministry at Loveland UMC.

The purpose of the U.M.W. “is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.”

The next U.M.W. meeting is June 7th.

United Methodist Women have scrubbies, knives and spatulas for purchase. The scrubbies come in a variety of colors and cost $1.50 each or 4 for $5.00. The knives and spatulas are $5.00 each. These funds are used for our mission projects. See Ann Albrecht or call her at 513-683-4628. Thank you for your support.

New books have been purchased for this year and are available at UMW meetings or contact Ann Albrecht at 683-4628. You do not have to be a member of UMW to read these books. Copies of the Response Magazine and World Outlook Magazine are also available in the Gathering Area to continue your education about missions in the United States and throughout the world. U.M.W. MISSION AND OUTREACH PROJECTS

Campbell’s Labels
If you use any Campbell’s soup, Prego, V-8, Franco-American or Swanson products, please save the UPC labels and place them in the marked container located in the LUMC gathering area or bring them to the meeting. Campbell Soup Company allows organizations to redeem these for educational equipment. Labels donated are sent to Wesley Education Center for Children and Families. During 2011 we donated 745 points. REMEMBER to save those Campbell UPC labels.

Wesley Education Center for Children and Families
Wesley Education Center provides the highest quality child care for young children and enrichment services for children and families. The educational goal is to prepare children to excel. Through their Family Support Services, trained caring staff and community partnerships, the needs of 80 families are addressed. Wesley Education Center is changing lives “one child at a time.”

Wesley Education Center Guild meetings are the fourth Tuesday of January, March, May, September and November at 9:30am. Guild Membership Fee is $5.00 per year. In 2011 Loveland UMW participated at Guild meetings by providing refreshments, devotions and donating food in May for the Staff Recognition Luncheon and dessert for the Christmas Lunch.

In 2011 six children received Christmas presents from our Loveland UMW. The value of items donated by the Loveland UMW in 2011 was $631.

Lincoln Crawford Nursing/Rehab Center

Lincoln Crawford has been caring for the elderly of Cincinnati’s African-American community as a certified 100-bed skilled nursing facility with rehabilitation and therapy services for 123 years. The staff continually rededicates itself to the mission of service through state of the art medical technology, in addition to social interaction, pastoral support and religious services. In 2011 we donated 15 lap robes, 5 walker-carry bags and various other items.

Otterbein Retirement Community

Otterbein Retirement Community is located in Lebanon, Ohio. The original community was built for children and adults in 1912 on land purchased from the Shakers near Lebanon. The childcare program ended in 1963 and since then Otterbein has become a retirement living complex. In keeping with the United Methodist tradition, Otterbein continues to offer opportunities designed to enhance the quality of life and holistic growth of the people who live there. At Otterbein, residents may begin to pursue old hobbies or discover new possibilities in a comfortable and secure community. Quality health care services at all stages are available should the need arise.

The Auxiliary of Otterbein convenes for lunch, meeting and a program the 4th Thursday of January, March, April and September. Memberships are $2.00. At Christmas 2011, the UMW provided the residents with 15 walker-carry bags, 4 laprobes, slippers, craft supplies and other various items.

Loveland Interfaith Effort (L.I.F.E.)

L.I.F.E. was organized in 1999 as a food pantry to serve our less fortunate neighbors in the Loveland School District. The organization is now supported by area churches, the Loveland schools, local businesses, numerous volunteers and the community at large.

On average, more than 200 families visit the pantry each month. Most of the pantry items come from individual contributions and local food drives. Each week a “needs” list is published in LUMC Happenings and on our church website. In 2011, our UMW contributed $200.00 plus miscellaneous items from various individuals. LUMC provides numerous gifts for the Christmas Giving Shoppe.

Fall Project – Festival of Sharing

Clean hands and better teeth mean better health; good grooming; bright shiny smiles. You can share them when you prepare Hygiene Kits for friends in the USA and around the world. In 2011, UMW assembled 2 Hygiene Kits with a value of $20.

Shawl Ministry

Persons receiving the shawls know they are included in our prayers. In 2011, seven shawls or laprobes were given.

Knitted Baby Cap Ministry

Each baby born at Bethesda North Hospital receives a cap. The pattern and yarn is available and you receive three volunteer hours credit for each completed baby cap. During 2011 eleven baby caps and 5 chemo hats for adults were donated.

Baby Blanket, Baby Sweaters and Laprobes Ministry

Sew, crochet or knit baby blankets, gowns or sweaters for Baby Care Layette Kits, bibs for Wesley Education and/or laprobes for Lincoln Crawford Nursing Home. Donations of yarn or material are appreciated.

Sunshine Ministry

UMW sent 135 cards to members and friends of the Loveland United Methodist Church during 2011. Donations of new get-well, sympathy and thinking-of-you cards are welcome. Five members were visited in May 2011.
