Shepherds of the Soil

MARCH 17TH, 2012 – MULCH DAY!

Shepherds Of the Soil Ministry provides an opportunity for you and/or your family to cultivate and care for one of the 21 flower garden plots across our church campus. A seasonal ministry…Spring, Summer, & Fall with Winter time off for good growing! Shepherds clear their flowerbeds of debris in preparation for planting and mulching in the Spring. “With all our heart, strength and power, we cultivate and promote the flower! We sows it and God grows it.”

To connect in this ministry contact Dave Myers @ dmyers_5220@fuse.net.

THE WEED WACKER

APRIL 26, 2012

Color arrives on the LUMC campus! The Kevin and Carol Spatz plot sport the ‘first rose of spring’! Gigi Oriol has her purple color plants all in a row near the top of her plot where cars in the driveway can view them. Cathy and Phil Wenger have their ‘Iris flags a-flying’! I know that we missed getting pictures of the daffodils and tulips so we’re on our second round of colorization.

Speaking of flowers, there are 6 lily plants just outside the front door available on a first-come-first-serve basis. They will add a great touch next spring to any garden space. These were unclaimed after the Easter services. Keep a sharp eye out for buys at the garden centers and let us know and we’ll shoot out and e-mail to the SOS team.

Remember also that we have a good supply of Round Up and Specticide in our storage shed behind Pastor Doug’s office. Specticide is especially good for Nutsedge, the grass that takes over any garden and grows in the grass as well. It may take several applications to get rid of this persistent plant.

The underground sprinkling system is scheduled to be turned May 25th. The shepherds who do NOT have this watering advantage are Steve Hook, Sue Smith and Mike Dial. Steve is five feet from the hose for one of his beds but everyone else will have to haul the water via 5 gallon buckets…sorry about that. May Mother Nature be kind to you this growing season.

Remember….we all have a “garden-of-weed’n”. Herbicide spray is our new best friend.

God bless,
Cathy & Dave
